Beyerskloof vintage report 2024
Beyerskloof experienced an exceptional winter with favourable conditions for our vines during their rest period. Bud break commenced in late August amidst heavy rainfall, leading to heightened disease susceptibility. Strong winds persisted from October to mid-January, mitigating disease pressure but adversely affecting flowering and ultimately reducing our yield.
Harvest started seven days earlier than usual at the end of January due to intermittent heat waves. Despite being down 20% on our long-term average production, grape quality remained excellent. We concluded harvest nice and early on 13 March. Overall, I am pleased with the vintage, though I would have welcomed a slightly higher yield.
Settle into autumn: Eerste Ry Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Our Eerste Ry Cabernet Sauvignon is a tribute to our roots and the first vineyards planted at Beyerskloof. Crafted from 30-year-old vines nurtured on our estate, this wine boasts intense dark fruit and cassis flavours with delicate spice and savoury aromas from new oak.
Structured yet beautifully balanced, it offers hints of dark chocolate and a long, smooth finish. Pair it with matured sirloin or rump steaks, or an oxtail potjie. Developed over 24 months in 100% new French oak, this Cabernet Sauvignon promises to evolve gracefully for a decade or more.
