Visit Alto Estate this winter to experience their new winter menu, Italian night menu, and winter canapé and wine pairing.

Alto Estate in Stellenbosch is the ultimate winter destination, immerse yourself in our selection of renowned red wines, flavourful comfort food and the perfect winter ambiance.

As from 1 May 2024, we will have a new winter menu, an Italian night menu, and a winter canapé and wine pairing available for the whole winter season.

Winter menu

Our winter menu includes all of our customer favourites with a few exciting new dishes.

Enjoy a shellfish duo starter of fresh black mussels and tiger prawns in a rich garlic cream sauce with a chorizo crumb, for the main course, indulge in a red wine braised lamb shank served with biltong mash, roasted vegetables and rich lamb jus or enjoy our Chef’s family recipe for baked Melanzane.

Our winter menu is available for lunch from Tuesday to Sunday and for dinner every Friday evening.

Winter Italian Nights

Our head chef has created the ultimate comfort food menu combining his Italian heritage with a Mediterranean twist.

Choose from starters including Gnocchi Romano, Sundried tomato risotto balls or indulge in an anti-pasti platter. Our main course items include homemade beef ravioli served with an option of 2 sauces, prawn and chorizo risotto or Chef's surprise pasta, to end off with choose between a traditional Affogato or a rich and indulgent Tiramisu cheesecake.

Our Italian Nights are available every Wednesday evening. Choose between a 2-course for R295 or a 3-course option for R375 per person.

Winter canapé and wine pairing 

The Alto winter canapé and wine pairing is the perfect winelands winter experience. Enjoy 4 of our red wines paired with a selection of 4 specially created canapés. Each canapé has been carefully crafted to complement our wines and enhance the rich and concentrated flavours that we are renowned for.

Enjoy our Rouge paired with a mini Alto Rouge Slider, our Shiraz paired with a Vension tartare with balsamic beetroot & micro rocket served on a crostini, our noble Cabernet Sauvignon paired with aged sirloin served with a caramalised onion puree and a French mustard sauce and our Flagship Estate Blend paired with a mushroom arancini ball with truffle and shiitake aioli & crispy Parma ham.

This pairing is R225 per person and is available from Fridays to Sundays during tasting room hours only. 24-hour notice bookings are essential.

10-Year release wines 

Collectability is one of our main core values at Alto, we are proud to produce wines that have the ability to age for decades.

We are honoured to announce the upcoming release of our 10-year-old wines to our wine club members next month. We will be releasing carefully selected 2014 vintages in extremely limited quantities on 28 May 2024. These wines will only be available to our wine club members on a first come, first serve basis.

The award-winning M.P.H.S. 2017

2017 was a fantastic vintage on Alto and our M.P.H.S. 2017 encapsulates the best of this vintage as well as our terroir of excellence.

The M.P.H.S. is a limited release wine, made only in exceptional years, it is made in tribute to our previous winemakers, whose initials make up the name; Manie Malan, Piet du Toit, Hempies du Toit. and Schalk van der Westhuizen.

The 2017 vintage is a blend of the very best parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).

We are proud to announce that this phenomenal wine was awarded with a Master Medal, scoring being 97 to 100 points at the Global Cabernet Sauvignon Masters 2024. Congratulations to our winemaker, Bertho van der Westhuizen and his team on this incredible accomplishment.
