Painted Wolf Wines harvest 2024
We finally wrapped up the 2024 harvest on 9 April, pressing off our last tank of whole bunch fermented Elgin Syrah. It was the culmination of a fun, intense and at times challenging 10 weeks.
Harvest kicked off early this year, with our first Pinotage coming into the cellar on 23rd January, a full week earlier than last year. This was followed by five weeks of intense harvest activity, a lull of a few weeks to catch our breath and regroup, and eventually some grapes later in the season. As usual we sourced grapes from growers in several locations, our historic growers in Swartland, Wellington, Voor Perdeberg and Breedekloof, adding a new grower from the cool Elgin area.
We have some tremendous new 2024 wines, happily resting in tank and barrel at the onset of their period of maturation.

Celebrating the 50th birthday of the Endangered Wildlife Trust
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the EWT, and they celebrated this and their many achievements over the years at a banquet last week. Painted Wolf proudly sponsored the wines for this milestone event, in acknowledgement of our 13 year partnership with them.
From modest beginnings, the EWT now has a ‘pawprint’ across 21 countries, with 13 focused programmes under the management of 110 pack members – from the crucial admin staff based at their campus in Gauteng, to scientists and other staff working in the field. Their work covers a broad scope, including carnivores, vultures, cranes, amphibians, trade in wildlife, and the impacts on wildlife by energy and transport infrastructure.
In April 2011 we signed an agreement to support the EWT, and since then we have been a loyal donor and supporter of the Trust, donating significant funds from sales of our wines. Our support is focused on the Carnivore Conservation Programme, which manages research and conservation of African wild dogs. In 2015 our Jeremy, on behalf of Painted Wolf Wines, proudly received the prestigious Cheetah Award from the EWT with this citation: “The Cheetah Award is awarded to individuals who have gone beyond the call of duty and extended themselves over a prolonged period in support of achieving the Mission of the EWT, which is to conserve threatened species and ecosystems throughout the region to the benefit of all.”
We are immensely proud of our association with the EWT, congratulate them on their significant half century milestone, thank them for the very important and impactful work they are doing, and look forward to many more years of helping to make that work possible. Wine of the Month: Pictus VIII 2018
Our flagship wine, Lycaon Pictus VIII, is a rich, full-bodied and elegant red blend of Carignan, Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris, Shiraz, and Mourvèdre. It has intense layers of blackberries and forest fruits, leather, mushroom and pungent black pepper. Ripe, beautifully integrated tannins and firm acidity provide structure and lead to a long, rewarding finish.

The Den @ Kruger
For a few months every year, the den is the heart of the wild dog pack – a place chosen by the alpha female to give birth and where the entire pack congregates in anticipation of the next generation joining the ranks.
