Introducing James Ochse, the KWV Roodeberg winemaker. The individual behind your favourite bottle of Roodeberg Wine. He takes pride in crafting every vintage of this esteemed wine for your enjoyment.
James possesses an abundance of winemaking skills, having gathered them over the years in Stellenbosch wine cellars following his stint in New Zealand’s Marlborough and America’s Napa Valley. His decade-long experience makes him a master craftsman.
Growing up in the outskirts of Stellenbosch, instilled in him a deep passion for winemaking. Heeded by his father’s advice to pursue such a career, his uncle, Kevin Arnold of Waterford Estate served as mentor and set his course.
James is driven by what different wines bring to the table: “Every day, vintage and year opens up new possibilities and obstacles. You’re never quite sure what the day might bring.”
As the lead winemaker of Roodeberg’s iconic range, with a legacy that has endured over seven decades, James bears considerable responsibility.
“For more than seven decades, the Roodeberg brand has been part of our heritage. It’s clear that its team have done something right to make that happen. My aim is to maintain high standards and be sure that every table, across all generations, can enjoy a bottle of Roodeberg.”
