Boschendal is a place of stunning beauty, with its picturesque mountains, deep ravines, and majestic peaks.
An abundance of indigenous creatures including duiker, klipspringer, porcupine, mongoose, caracal, and even leopard can be found on our historic grounds. Our striking indigenous trees include ironwood, yellowwood, stinkwood, and wild olive, and are home to a variety of birds, insects, and other wildlife.
Boschendal's champion trees
Our farm is home to some of the largest trees in South Africa and we’re proud of our Champion Tree status for our lane of 40 exceptionally large trees.
Did you know that the biggest tree in South Africa has been recorded at Boschendal? It easily comes out on top in terms of girth, height and crown.
Removing alien species

Our goal is not just to sustain our farmland, but to improve and leave it better than when we found it. We are actively working to clear invasive alien species which prevent the growth of indigenous plants and can cause problems such as flooding, wildfires, soil erosion, and clogged wetlands.
By clearing more than 500 hectares of alien vegetation every year, we have already seen a significant and positive impact on birdlife and the free movement of wildlife.
Encouraging water conservation
Our work removing alien trees and plants around the farm allows for a more natural and consistent water supply and our clearing efforts have greatly improved the waterflow of our rivers.
Additionally, by investing in conservation-efficient irrigation systems and using cover crops, we can preserve soil moisture and use less of our precious water resources.
We care for our soil
Our farm is our home and we are committed to nurturing the soil beneath our feet using naturally regenerative farming methods to ensure we conserve our farm for generations to come.
Our farmers use cover crops, our livestock, and the indigenous wildlife found on our farm to regenerate and revitalise the soil. Each species grazes freely and fertilises these areas, adding vital nutrients to the ground the way nature intended.
This regenerative farming method uses no harmful chemicals, promotes soil resilience, improves natural water retention and preserves biodiversity.
