At Bellevue Wine Estate, we like to think we are Pinotage, and it all started in 1953 when owner PK Morkel became one of the first to plant Pinotage at scale in South Africa.
Our characteristic, closely planted bush vines lend themselves naturally to sustainable, biodynamic cultivation, while delivering fruit with intense and concentrated flavour. Dirkie Morkel and Wilhelm Kritzinger incorporate the harvests of these decades-old vines with innovative production methods to produce award-winning wines.
We are Pinotage – from our very first win of the coveted Jan Smuts trophy in 1959, to the release of the Bellevue 1953 Pinotage – the culmination of decades of hard work in both the vineyard and the cellar!
