Dornier’s Cocoa Hill range of wines is well known for the exceptional value for money it offers.
The latest release in this range of wines is Cocoa Hill Merlot 2020, a single variety Merlot that offers complex aromas and flavours of black and red fruits, pepper and hints of spice. It is the perfect accompaniment to stewed meats and strong, aged cheeses – the perfect choice for most any winter day or night.
With this new release we are excited to announce the release of the 2020 vintage of Cocoa Hill Red (now called Cocoa Hill Ruby Red). Both wines have been highly rated by Gilbert & Gaillard – international wine rating authority, having received a double gold and gold medal respectively.

New limited wine release
Dornier Pinot Grigio 2022 & Dornier Scarlette 2018
This November sees the release of a new, limited release white wine: Dornier Pinot Grigio. The wine is aromatic with appealing freshness and attractive fruitiness and minerality – the perfect Spring time wine.
Production volumes of this wine were low with only 2000 bottles produced. Donatus Wine Club Members will enjoy pre-release access to the wine after which time the wine will be available to taste and purchase at the Wine Lounge at Dornier.
Dornier Scarlette 2018, a premium quality red blend of undisclosed grape varieties, will be released exclusively to Donatus Wine Club Members this October at a special Donatus Wine Club Event to be held at Dornier and in Stellenbosch Town. (More detail below).
Dornier Scarlette 2018 is Dornier’s second Donatus Wine Club Exclusive release which ushers in a new time at Dornier whilst continuing to showcase the unique terroir present at Dornier alongside the myriad of stories that abound. Dornier Donatus Red 2018
Top 10 Bordeaux Style Red Blend in SA
For the second successive year Dornier Donatus Red has secured a Top 10 ranking in the Prescient Cape Bordeaux Red Blend Competition. Sharing joint second place at 94 points this wine is exemplary of Dornier’s ongoing pursuits towards fine wine production. The 2018 vintage of Donatus Red is a blend of 61.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11.5% Cabernet Franc, 11.5% Malbec, 11.5% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot. Matured for 18 months in French Oak, the wine shows aromas and flavours of red and black berries, herbs and earth. The pallet is full bodied with dense fruit and sleek tannins.
Donatus Red pairs excellently with lamb, venison or rare beef fillet. It also works well with earthy, rich vegetarian dishes and stews prepared with red wine and tomatoes. Dornier Donatus Red 2018 is available to taste and purchase at The Wine Lounge at Dornier.
Donatus Wine Club Event
It is difficult to believe that 4 years have passed since the last Donatus Wine Club Event was held at Dornier. So much happened during this time which placed follow-up wine events on hold. We are happy to announce that the next Donatus Wine Club event will take place on 29 October 2022.
As before, the event will proceed with a special tasting of Dornier wines in our cellar as hosted by Winemaker Philip van Staden. Wines to be tasted will not only include the new Dornier Pinot Grigio and Dornier Scarlette, but also specially selected wines from barrel and or tank.
Thereafter a food and wine pairing lunch will be held at a venue in Stellenbosch - to be disclosed closer to the time. Further detail on the function will be communicated via email in early October with provisional times of 10h30 – 15h30 planned. The event will once again be limited to a first come first serve basis for Donatus Wine Club Members only.
