Taste and texture

Taste the Terroir with La Motte's newly released 2022 Sauvignon Blanc.

The influence that the terroir diversity of the South African Winelands has on the wine we produce, can be more than a media statement - you can actually experience it in your glass.

Tasting the 2022 La Motte Sauvignon Blanc, one gets to enjoy fruit, vibrancy and classic elegance derived from the distinctive character of grapes from Stellenbosch (50%), Franschhoek (25%) and the Cape South Coast (25%). Approachable with a beautiful balance between tropical fruit flavours and minerality, the new release is polished by 5% of Semillon, adding complexity and interest.

With an almost ideal growing season – a cold wet winter and initial cool start to summer - the 2022 Sauvignon Blanc grapes had exceptional flavour development. Heatwaves during harvest did, however, result in lower acids and higher pH levels compared to previous vintages. Grapes were harvested at between 17° and 23° Balling to optimise the natural acidity. The winemaking process was reductive with cold fermentation at 14°C.

A delicate straw with a slight green tinge, the colour in the glass already hints on the wine’s fresh and fruity character. Enjoy a nose of intense gooseberry and lime and a palate vibrant with lemon and winter melon. A supple mouthfeel and nuances of dried grass tempers the vivacity of the wine for an elegant glassful that lingers on the palate.

With its natural acidity and fine texture, the 2022 La Motte Sauvignon Blanc is a trusted choice for those who enjoy a refreshing aperitif-style Sauvignon Blanc, but also a versatile white wine with food. Enjoy with salads (fresh or with grilled vegetables), those often tricky and spicy Asian flavours and, especially, with seafood – from freshly grilled fish to the more luxurious options such as crayfish.
