Winner of the ASI Contest Best Sommelier Europe & Africa announced

The Association de la Sommellerie Internationale (ASI) is pleased to announce the winner of the ASI Contest Best Sommelier Europe & Africa in Limassol, Cyprus is Salvatore Castano of Italy.  Salvatore Castano is the first of three continental contest winners to qualify for the ASI Best Sommelier of the World contest to be held in Paris, France in 2023.

Of their achievement ASI President William Wouters says “watching and being a part of the thrilling final live, I can attest that Salvatore Castano has proven without a doubt they are not only one of Europe and Africa’s, but the world’s, best sommeliers. I should also say to win, means you must compete, and to compete there must be worthy competitors. All of our finalists showed on stage why they made it this far in the contest. It’s thrilling to see the level of quality, not only in the finals but throughout the competition. I look forward to seeing Salvatore and others compete on the world stage.”

The contest will conclude with a gala dining event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Limassol graciously hosted by the Cyprus Sommelier Association. Cyprus Sommelier Association President and event organizer, Georgios Kassianos says “ the road to this contest was filled with many unexpected bumps, but thanks to our volunteers, local government, local and international partners, we have proudly showcased the gastronomy, wine culture and legendary hospitality of Cyprus. We are thrilled to have introduced the world to our jewel of the Mediterranean and we could not be happier to announce Salvatore Castano as the winner of the 2021 ASI Best Sommelier of Europe & Africa contest here in Cyprus.”

ASI will once again welcome the world in February 2022, for the ASI Best Sommelier of the Americas contest in Concepción, Chile and will be followed by the AI Best Sommelier of Asia & Oceania in Taiwan, next fall, and the ASI Best Sommelier of the World in Paris, France in 2023.
