Compagniesdrift Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2019 was awarded a bronze medal in the 2020 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show today and highlighted as a great value wine, especially with regards to the price of the wine.

This popular blend has a wonderfully aromatic nose of summer fruit, citrus and strawberries, with a fresh palate, crisp acidity and opulent creaminess. A portion of the proceeds of this wine, which is available at selected restaurants, retail outlets or online on the Compagniesdrift website, contributes to the support and awareness of breast cancer, the empowerment of women and the promotion of good health and a powerful, positive mindset of survival amongst breast cancer patients.

October is breast health awareness month and Compagniesdrift, a black-owned wine company in Stellenbosch, joined the cause since 2019 with breast health awareness campaigns amongst their staff and members of the Meerlust Workers’ Trust. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women world-wide and significantly changed the life of Ilse Ruthford, managing director of Compagniesdrift, when she was diagnosed in March 2019.

This drove her to establish an awareness campaign around the importance of frequent screening, the necessary scans to ensure early detection and general health issues amongst the women she works with.  A percentage of every bottle of Compagniesdrift Chardonnay Pinot Noir sold enables the female staff members to live a healthy life as early detection of the disease is the cornerstone of breast cancer control.

Ruthford is known to take a personal interest in the wellbeing of her staff. “The health and wellness of all our staff has always been a priority to me, but my cancer diagnosis and subsequent recovery last year placed more emphasis on the importance of breast health awareness amongst the female staff members of Compagniesdrift and the Meerlust Workers’ Trust.”

Compagniesdrift Chardonnay Pinot Noir is associated with the support programmes of the Breast Health Foundation. “We are very impressed with the fantastic work of the Breast Health Foundation in educating and supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer and we are proudly associated with them,” says Ruthford.

Compagniesdrift was established in 2010 as a wine storage, bottling and labelling facility and has since grown their brand into an outstanding range of wines that consists of an unwooded Chardonnay, Chardonnay Pinot Noir blend and a barrel-matured Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot blend.
