Middelvlei Wines
There is a slight chill in the air these days, and the days seem to be getting shorter as winter approaches. This time of the year we tend to opt for a robust red wine to keep the seasonal chills at bay, and Middelvlei’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is guaranteed to be a winter winner.

Sourced from vineyards planted in 1990, the grapes were hand harvested in February 2018 at optimal ripeness. In the cellar the grapes underwent malolactic fermentation before being left to mature in French (70%) and American (30%) oak for 11 months. The majority of the wine was matured in 2nd fill barrels, with 30% in new oak barrels.

Winemaker Tinnie Momberg describes the wine as being velvety smooth and superbly balanced. Its intense dark cherry and cassis flavours intermingle beautifully around the wine’s supple tannins, resulting in a piquant, lingering aftertaste.

Enjoy the Middelvlei Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 on its own near a cozy fireplace, or better yet serve with a juicy beef hamburger, slow-cooked beef or venison or roast lamb. The wine’s flavours also partners perfectly with Portobello mushrooms. First prize would be to sample this superb wine at Middelvlei itself whilst sitting down to enjoy one of the farm’s famous Boerebraai lunches. The wine is available directly from the cellar at R175 per bottle or select outlets nationwide.
