361 Years of Winemaking in South Africa
As far as we know, South Africa is the only country in the world to have its first wine production documented. Jan van Riebeek is quoted as saying ''Today, praise be to God, wine was made for the first time from Cape grape'' - this on the 2nd of Feb 1659.
We now celebrate this unique occasion annually - hosted by Groot Constantia, home to the first wines produced in South Africa.
Whimsical Wonderdal at Hazendal

There are also scrumptious meals for the kids.
A visit to Paul Cluver
At our recent visit we discovered Paul Cluver's newly opened tasting room. Paul Cluver offers Mountain Bike trails too and the excellent SALT restaurant.
Another discovery in their new tasting room is the incredible table and furniture, which was honed and planed by the hands of the neurosurgeon himself, Dr Paul Cluver. Huge trees must have given way to these incredible organic tables. Beautiful they are. Take a trip out when next in Elgin and see for yourself.
