Landskroon’s marketing executive, Huguette de Villiers-van der Merwe, believes consumers will be most delighted to see the new labels on their old favourites. She says, “It’s a new year and a new decade and we are ready to add a fresh look and feel to our iconic wines. They are the same delicious wines, but for the first time in 7 years they feature an updated look.”
The label, designed by ALDC in conjunction with PrinsPak, portrays the De Villiers family crest with all its symbolic richness, including the swords, crown, paschal lamb and other heraldic features dating back to 1689. Wine lovers will start seeing these elegant, new labels in the market very soon.
The family farm, located on the South Western slopes of the iconic Paarl Mountain with the majestic Table Mountain on the horizon, is steeped in history. In early May of 1689, the Tall Ship Gardiol dropped its sails in Table Bay, after sailing from La Rochelle on the French Atlantic coast. On board were Abraham, Jacques and Pierre, the three de Villiers brothers who were fleeing France from Niort, after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes which did not allow for Protestantism.
Since their voyage to South Africa the family has made deep tracks in South African history: in academia, law, medicine, politics and wine. Now, five generations later, Landskroon proudly continue this heritage with the 5th Paul de Villiers as the cellarmaster. He runs the estate with his brother, Hugo, and cousins, Madelief and Huguette.
Paul V is a previous winner of the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year competition, for his port style wine. He and his team have over the years made many award-winning wines which with the finest reds are part of the rich history of the estate. Landskroon offers a full range of whites, reds, Blanc de Noir and Cape Vintage – the estate’s excellent Port-style wine.
