La Petite Ferme
Wikus Pretorius, La Petite Ferme's winemaker, introduces "Variation", the latest addition to his sought-after Winemakers Edition series.

"I have always enjoyed working with Rhone varieties", says Wikus Pretorius. "It was in 2017 that I got my hands on the right vineyards to make the blend. I want to emphasize what the different varieties grown in different soils can produce. The blend comprises three or more Rhone varieties depending on the vintage hence the name "Variation". I want to highlight each vintage for its specific characteristics. The blend will be different each year, showing us the differences between wines and winemaking styles.

The 2017 vintage consists of 87% Shiraz that was co-fermented with 1% Viognier and aged in 10% new French oak for 10 months. 12% Grenache aged in old French Oak Barrels and Stainless Steel to uphold the purity of fruit. Purple flowers, Violets and rose petals dominate the nose. A medium-bodied palate with fine integrated tannins. The acidity lingers on the palate and highlights the fruit.

I think this wine is excellent to drink now but would benefit from another year in the bottle. Enjoy from now to 2022."
