The first 14 finalists are known. They qualified in the Western Cape SAWTC, the Johannesburg Tops @ Spar Wine Show and the Durban Tops@Spar competition. The last seat will be given to the best wine taster this Saturday at the Grand West Tops@Spar wine show.
Any wine lover can participate and put their taste to the test. When visiting the Tops@Spar wine show they will receive a shortlist of wines they have to taste among the numerous wines on tasting this day. Once they feel they could memorize the wines shortlisted they will come to the SAWTC stand and face 6 anonymous decanters, giving them the opportunity to identify the cultivar, the vintage and the producer of the wines, in these decanters.
Durban Champions
The taster with the highest score will become Cape Town champion, and will be invited to the national finals on the 21st of July at the Taj Cape Town. This will be a complete different game for the Top15 of the nation as they will face 12 wines from all around the world served blind to them, having to recognize country, cultivar, appellation, vintage and producer, gaining points for each correct answer. The 4 highest scores will be selected for Team Nederburg and will fly to France for the World Championship on the 12th of October!
For those who want to visit Champagne and the Loire Valley with Team Nederburg, this is their last chance to show they are the super taster we are looking for!
Johannesburg Champions
If you believe you are not good enough, Sommeliers Academy will offer free workshops at the Tops @ Spar Grand West on Thursday the 11th and Friday 12th of July so on the Saturday you can taste like a sommelier, and win your golden ticket to the finals.
Do not miss this opportunity to show your talent!
