Discover Responsible Seafood this Easter
The
ABALOBI initiative promotes traceable, storied seafood by empowering small-scale fishers from hook to cook. By cutting out the middleman, the local fisher receives a higher price for their catch and the restaurant receives fresher seafood and a more diverse range of species. Bistro Sixteen82 was the first restaurant to partner with ABALOBI and has been ordering fresh seafood for just over 1 year and the guest experience has been nothing but positive.
On the menu this Easter at Bistro Sixteen82 is Chef Kerry Kilpin's pickled fish taco. Pickled fish, an Easter tradition in the Cape, is accompanied in this dish by a taco, avocado pulp, aioli, soy syrup and fresh herbs.

A quick walk around this property and its gardens will highlight the magnificent Edoardo Villa sculptures dotted around the landscape. Edoardo Villa was born in Bergamo, Italy and came to South Africa during World War II as a prisoner of war. After his release from the prison camp, Villa remained in South Africa to pursue a career in sculpture and became known as one of South Africa's foremost sculptors.
His works are featured around our property as well as at

Discover Taste at Catharina's Restaurant
We have been creating delicious new flavour combinations this past month based on the special ingredients Chef Kerry Kilpin has chosen. Week 1 featured samphire - a succulent which grows along the coast, week 2 featured sumac - a spice with a tart, lemony flavour, week 3 featured num num - a plum indigenous to the coastal areas of Kwazulu Natal and week 4 is currently spekboom - a succulent loved by the elephants in the Eastern Cape.
Chef Kerry has planned to surprise us until the end of April with more interesting taste sensations. Simply book a table for lunch or dinner before 30 April 2019 to be amazed. Follow our social pages and the #DiscoverTaste hashtag to find out what each week holds.
Steenberg Hotel & Catharina's Restaurant will close for renovations from 01 May 2019 - 02 September 2019. We are very excited to share our beautiful changes with you later in the year.
