Riebeek-Kasteel is also home to Allesverloren, one of the oldest wine estates in the Swartland region. Current owner and cellar master, Danie Malan, is the fifth generation Malan on the estate. Allesverloren and its wine have been a part of this community for generations. When asked what makes this region so unique, Danie answers: “It’s the people, the people make it extraordinary. Moreover, of course, excellent food and wine.
It’s lekker to live here.” When travelling through Riebeek-Kasteel, there are various places to stop and experience the best the Swartland has to offer. Visitors can kick off their morning with coffee and delicacies from Panera Bakery. Dave and his team are up before the crack of dawn preparing fresh confectioneries for you to enjoy with a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Just around the corner in the quaint Short Street, Crisp stocks fresh local produce to pick and choose. On the road leading out of town is Deli-Co Butchery.
This family-owned butchery is where the Truter family produces the most succulent meat in the Swartland where visitors are welcomed with open arms in true Swartland style. Apart from wine, the Swartland is also renowned for its olive produce. The Olive Boutique, run by Derek and Susan, offers locals and visitors the finest olive products of the region. However, no visit to Riebeek- Kasteel is complete without tasting the excellent wines of the area. Wine tasting at Allesverloren offers visitors the chance to experience the estates range of traditional and Portuguese reds, as well as fortified wines. Allesverloren also recently expanded their range to include a Tinta Rosé and Chenin Blanc. Here one can sit on the stoep of the tasting room overlooking the beautiful Riebeek Valley.
