It is an exciting time of the year, with tractor loads of grapes arriving at the cellar and the aromas of freshly crushed grape juice and fermenting wine in the cellar.
There are only two more Top of the Hill Vineyards Walks this season. This popular event is taking place again on Saturday 23 February and the last one this summer on Saturday 9 March.
Put on your sunhat and trainers, and walk along with owner Pieter de Waal, through the many rows of vineyards, to the highest point of the farm, the location of the amazing Top of the Hill Pinotage vineyard. Planted in April 1950, this one hectare Pinotage bush vine, is the oldest Pinotage vineyard in the world. The flagship Pinotage, the well-known Top of the Hill PInotage, is produced from this 68 year old single vineyard.
Included in the walk, is a tasting of the brilliant Top of the Hill Pinotage 2015 in the vineyards, more wine tasting afterwards on the Terrace, accompanied by Janine de Waal’s delightful cheese luncheon. The beautiful Stellenbosch scenery and the incredible history, shared by Pieter de Waal, completes this unique experience at the farm. The cost is R245 per person.
