On Tuesday, 8 January 2019,  thirteen Dutch sommeliers participated in the Wines of South Africa (WoSa) Sommelier Cup in Amsterdam.

The exam consisted of theoretical questions about South African wine.

The winner is Martien Marcelissen from VANE Restaurant / Skybar in Eindhoven. Marcelissen received a three pack "Chenin Blanc Story” from Stellenrust for his victory in the Netherlands. The second and third places went respectively to Priscilla van der Voort from Restaurant Waterproef and Tim Meyer Viol from Wijnbar Shiraz in Amsterdam. On Saturday 21 September, Martien will participate in the final in Cape Town against candidates from Sweden, Germany, Canada, the United States, Asia, Africa and Great Britain.

The competition gives sommeliers the opportunity to delve into the wines of a country that currently counts as one of the most exciting wine countries in the world.
Traveling for a week together with colleagues who work in international top businesses is a unique and educational opportunity.
