Cape Wine Auction Trust
Iain Banner has been appointed to the board of the Cape Wine Auction Trust and joins the trust's five other members – Wendy Appelbaum, Paul Cluver, Ken Kinsey-Quick, Raymond Ndlovu and Mike Ratcliffe.

Banner is the co-founder of a number of successful companies, events and charities, including Sports International, the Gary Player Design Company, the Laureus World Sport Awards and Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Says Banner: “I am honoured and excited to be joining this group of hard-working people who have passion and energy and think creatively and innovatively to effect real change in the lives of those who live and work in the winelands.”

The Cape Wine Auction Trust mandate, to support education in the South African winelands, is achieved through a unique model of giving. With monies raised from the annual Cape Wine Auction, the Trust funds passionate, well-managed beneficiaries in the field of education and supports them to maximise the value of the funding they are given. Where beneficiaries of other trusts work in silos, often never knowing what each is doing, the Cape Wine Trust has created a model that goes beyond that, with a beneficiary community that ensures that those who are funded get to know each other, learn from each other and support one another.

The 2019 Cape Wine Auction – sponsored by Nedbank Private Wealth – takes place on Saturday, March 2, at Buitenverwachting estate in Constantia, Cape Town, with the 2019 American Express Barrel Auction kicking off proceedings on the previous evening on Friday, March 1 at the Norval Foundation in Tokai.
