The Veritas Awards are considered one of South Africa’s most prestigious wine awards and receive close to 2,000 entries annually. Wines and spirits are judged by local and international industry experts and submitted to a rigorous judging procedure. Gold and Double Gold awards are of significant value to producers and indicates a score of 86/100 or more.
The Breedekloof Wine Valley holds the reputation as the wine valley which offers consumers outstanding quality, and this is again proven by this most recent performance.
Top performers on the night included Slanghoek Wine Cellar who received Double Gold for their Hanepoot Jerepigo 2017, as well as Du Toitskloof Cellar for their Red Muscadel 2015. Two Gold Medals were awarded to Badsberg Estate for their Red Jerepigo 2016 and Red Muscadel 2017. Bergsig Landgoed scored two Gold Medals for their Reserve Chenin Blanc 2017 and Bergsig Landgoed Touriga Naçional 2015. Du Toitskloof was awarded a Gold Medal for the Quest Heroes Journey One 2012. Merwida walked away with three Gold Medals for their Chenin Blanc 2018, Merwida Family Vintners Pierre van der Merwe Chenin Blanc 2016 and their Merwida White Muscadel 2017. Stofberg Family Vineyards was another Gold Medal recipient for their Mariëtte Chardonnay Brut MCC 2013. The balance of awards included 33 Silver and 30 Bronze Medals.
Melody Botha, CEO of Breedekloof Wine Valley tourism expressed that the valley’s achievement is an ‘extraordinary win’ for the winemakers: “To be recognised in this competition indicates the Breedekloof winemakers’ commitment to produce exceptional wines.”
