Amorim Cork MCC Challenge Results 2018

Certificates and trophies were awarded to the best achievers in the 2018 Amorim Cork MCC Challenge. The competition, now in its 17th year, highlights the quality of South African Cap Classique and also the progress made by our MCC producers.

The first class trophy to be awarded was for the Rosé category. Judging panel chairperson, Heidi Duminy commented, " Rosé is on the rise. It delivers exactly what consumers want at the price point they want it".

Rosé Winner:

Simonsig Woolworths Pinot Noir Rosé No Sulphur Added 2016

Next to be awarded was the Best Brut trophy.

Best Brut Winner:

Domaine des Dieux Claudia Brut 2012

Brut Gold Medal Winners:

Villiera Monro Brut 2011 

Lourensford MCC 2012

The Blanc de Blanc category shows the most finess and is a favourite to judge by the panel.

There were 5 entries in the Museum Class. This class, where MCC's entered need to be 8 years or older, shows what can be achieved with South African Cap Classique.

Best Museum Class:

Pongracz Desiderius 2009

The Frans Malan Legacy Trophy was awarded to South African wine legend, Christine Rudman. A special moment to see the trophy handed over by Johan Malan who exclaimed  "I'm so proud of what has been achieved by the category of Cap Classique - and my father would have been so proud."
