Villiera Wines
Villiera has reaffirmed its position as a consistent producer of outstanding Cap Classiques and distinctive still wines with three wines repeating their 90+ rating achieved last year and a fourth wine augmenting their four Medals of Excellence in Tim Atkin’s 2018 SA Special Report.

For the second year running the Villiera Monro Brut, Villiera Tradition Brut NV, and Villiera Traditional Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc earned a Medal of Excellence in Tim Atkin’s SA Special Report highlighting the enduring quality produced by Villiera.  Adding to this year’s achievement is the Villiera Bush Vine Blanc Fumé 2017 which achieved a score of 91.

With a total of four wines receiving the Medal of Excellence, Jeff Grier and his winemakers are gratified that their meticulous craftsmanship and careful vineyard practices are recognised and appreciated in their wines.

Villiera Monro Brut 2012 - awarded 94 points is Villiera’s Prestige Cuvee and bears a Grier family name. This highly awarded Cap Classique is produced with maturation in mind but delivers powerful and rich characteristics if enjoyed now.

Villiera’s hallmark Cap Classique - Tradition Brut NV scored 92 points in this year’s report slightly up on the 2017 rating. After more than 30 years of producing Villiera Tradition Brut this “Méthode Cap Classique” continues to impress.

Villiera Traditional Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2017 was rated 90 points, a repeat on the performance of the 2016 vintage. Producing this wine from 2 trellised vineyards and 1 old bush vine block with barrel aging ensures it delivers distinctive flavours with good maturation potential.

The fourth wine to achieve a score of 91 is the Villiera Bush Vine Blanc Fumé 2017. This wine is an exciting departure from what Villiera have usually done with their oaked Sauvignon Blanc and embraces new trends in winemaking to ensure greater versatility with food.
