Lourensford has announced the winners of the Winter #SeasonsOfLourensford Instagram competition, with Calvin Gillmer winning the public category and Tahlia Hamilton the Instagrammer category.

Lourensford Estate has announced the winners of the Winter #SeasonsOfLourensford Instagram competition, with Calvin Gillmer winning the public category and Tahlia Hamilton winning the Instagrammer category.

Both winners receive a Lourensford Estate Wine collection valued at R1 000. Their images are also eligible for the Grand Prize, which includes a one-night stay at Erinvale plus a Lourensford Estate experience valued at R5 000, to be announced at the opening of the inaugural #SeasonsOfLourensford exhibition in November 2017.

Gillmer, of Instagram handle @calvin_gillmer, shared the inspiration behind his winning image entitled “A Touch of Warmth”, captured on a Nikon D5200 with a Nikon 18-55mm F3.5-5.6G lens:

“I was driving back from Hermanus on one of the colder weekends in July and noticed quite a lot of snow on the mountains while driving over Sir Lowry's Pass. I decided to take a trip to Lourensford Estate in order to get a closer look and managed to find a beautiful open space where this winter image was taken. The views on that day were amazing and adventures like this reassure my love for photography,” said Gillmer.

Hamilton, of Instagram handle @toomuchloveliness, captured a photograph of a bee buzzing atop a Madiba Protea, illustrating that even in mid-winter Lourensford still offers up splashes of colourful natural beauty.

“We had an amazing day exploring Lourensford and it was my first time seeing fields of Proteas growing,” said Hamilton. “In a giant field of flowers it was wonderful to slow down, take in the details and find this tiny, busy bee in action. For me that is what Lourensford is about - slowing down, great attention to detail whilst always being busy and moving forward as a farm.”

Hamilton captured the image on a Samsung S7.

The competition, which spotlights the beauty of the farm as it is transformed by the seasons, is attracting enthusiastic support from the Western Cape and visitors to the Estate. The final Spring category is now open with Tuesday, the 31st of October being the deadline for submissions.

The public enter by uploading an image taken at Lourensford Estate to their personal Instagram feeds, ensuring they tag @Lourensford and use the hashtags #SeasonsOfLourensford and #LoveLourensford. Lourensford selects the best images for each season, reposts them on the @Lourensford Instagram feed and invites the public to comment on their favourite. The image that gets the most votes from unique users wins.
