Klawer Wine Cellars
Klawer Wine Cellars will be hosting a Proudly South African Heritage Day bash on the 24th of September, which will be combined with wine.co.za’s 21st birthday celebration entitled #tastesunshine.
If you are a braai-master, a braaier’s right hand or pro assistant and your guests keep complimenting you on your extraordinary braai technique, enter your team into Klawer Wine Cellar’s braai competition and stand the chance to win BIG prizes and a lot of bragging rights.
There are space for 15 teams in the competition and the entry fee is R100, which includes a bottle of Klawer wine, ice for the day, wood for the fire and a drumbraai. The entry fee must be paid before Wednesday, 20 September to secure your place.
This will be the second year that Klawer Wine Cellar is hosting this event and according to Franci Nortje, one of the organisers of the event, it is set to become an annual event that gets bigger and better each time.
“The #tastesunshine project is international and in this way we can reach a wider spectrum of people by getting involved with wine.co.za. A lot of cellars in South Africa will be taking part in this project and it is nice to see how everyone is getting involved and to see their way of celebrating Heritage Day,” says Nortje.
Klawer Wine Cellar is situated in the Matzikama region of the Western-Cape, on the N7 route just outside Klawer. They produce a wide variety of wines that includes dry whites and reds, as well as sparkling wine, dessert wines and grape juice.
This braai day celebration is not only for the participating teams; all the members of the community and other braai lovers that want to join in the festivities are welcome. There will be sheep spitbraai available to buy, and a lot of wine specials that will only be valid for that day. Gert Engelbrecht will provide the entertainment and is sure to have everyone on their feet and dancing the day away.
According to Nortje there will be three judges for the competition and all the braai dishes must be made on the fire. The fires will be lit at 9:00, but teams are more than welcome to come earlier to set up their things and get ready for the competition. The judging will start at 11:00 and teams will be judged in groups of 5. The judging will take place in 35 minute intervals to ensure each team has the chance to present a hot plate of food to the judges.
“There will be big prizes for the winning teams, but no one will go home empty handed,” says Nortje.
According to Nortje the prizes will be revealed in September closer to the event, but last year the teams won big cash prizes and this year they want the prizes to be even bigger and better.
Visitors are also welcome to bring picnic baskets and relax on Klawer Wine Cellar’s beautiful big green lawns, while enjoying a bottle of Klawer Wine. There will also be entertainment for the children, including jumping castles and face painting activities.
Klawer Wine Cellar is very excited to spend Heritage Day with the rest of our community, doing what South Africans do best: drinking wine and having a good time around the braai.
