To date, Great Domaines exclusively represents and imports directly into South Africa thirty of the greatest domaines of Burgundy. These Burgundian producers form the core of our portfolio of wines that we offer to our customers every year. “Our comprehensive portfolio is made up of some of the world’s finest wine producers and we are constantly working on striking up new relationships with other great producers so we can truly say we represent the greatest collection of wine producers,” says Wayne Visser, founder of Great Domaines.
“The addition of Domaine Leflaive to the Great Domaines portfolio is a significant achievement for us which has taken seven years of being in contact with the domaine and visiting to taste whenever we were in Burgundy. This domaine is regarded as the best white producer in Burgundy and possibly in the world,” Visser goes on to say. “It is nothing short of sensational to finally have them on board. It has been a noticeable gap not to have Burgundy’s white wine number one as part of our Burgundy portfolio. It is a relief that it has finally happened and obviously, an incredible privilege to represent such a historic estate here in South Africa”, adds Derek Kilpin, Great Domaines’ general manager.
Each wine will be offered to South African Burgundy lovers on an allocation basis due to the scarcity of these wines.
About Domaine Duroché
Domaine Duroché has managed to fly under the radar for a number of years, despite having holdings in four Grand Cru vineyards around Gevrey-Chambertin. Pierre Duroché took over winemaking duties from his father in 2009, and the wines are quickly gaining a reputation among collectors and critics alike as some of the best in their appellation – no faint praise considering the quality of their peers.
About Domaine Leflaive
Domaine Leflaive needs very little introduction. They have been a tour de force in white Burgundy since Joseph Leflaive conducted extensive re-plantings of his vineyards in 1920, recognising the potential of the land he owned. Since then the wines have gone from strength to strength, and are now considered the benchmark against which Chardonnay from all over the world is measured. In Burgundian terms, they have no equal and stand at the top of the tree, the Côte de Beaune’s answer to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
