From a very humble beginning 30 years ago where a group of 50 Cellar Workers attended a morning workshop, the program grew with leaps and bounds to bring not only training for Cellar Assistants, but to have an impact on the personal growth of individuals. For Wine Cellars, the training effectively improves the workforce by honing their knowledge, skills and competencies creating more productive individuals.

Accredited Training
It has come to our attention that many Cellar Staff including Winemakers and HR Officers are unaware that Wine Training SA is an accredited training institution who offers accredited training for Cellar Staff.
Wine Training SA is accredited with the FoodBEV SETA, and Full Accreditation was granted recently. A National Certificate in Winemaking – NQF 3 is presented, as well as Skills Programmes.
The Certificate programme (National Certificate Winemaking NQF Level 3) is aimed to provide learners with national standards that represent the competencies required to meet the challenges of participating effectively in the Winemaking industry as a multi-skilled cellar practitioner. The programme is presented in Robertson and at Elsenburg. The Robertson programme is almost fully booked, and a few places are still available at Elsenburg.
Closing date for nominations for the learnership : Friday, 27 January 2017. Please send the name(s) of nominees with ID number to Romena at admin@winetrainingsa.co.za

Hospitality Programme
The project consists of monthly one-day workshops held at Jordan Estate, Stellenbosch.
The level of customer satisfaction as well as winery staff who are passionate and knowledgeable about the entire winemaking process – from the soil to the senses – influence the decision to buy, the amount spent and the number of bottles purchased in a Tasting Room. It is critical to train staff in customer service, product knowledge and sales.

Mathematical Literacy Programme
The WEF’s 2016 report ranks SA’s mathematics and science education quality lower than that of Nigeria, Mozambique, and Malawi.
This is the third year in a row that South Africa was ranked last in the World Economic Forum’s mathematics and science education quality rankings.
It should be noted that these rankings are based on the perceptions of business leaders, and make use of the WEF’s annual Executive Opinion Survey to establish how well a country’s education system is performing.
At Wine Training SA we realised that there is a tremendous problem with the basic foundation of mathematical literacy with a large percentage of our learners. This programme is supported by the Cape Wine Auction Trust and Winetech.
