Hereby the second update from our interns. This time they will tell you about their experiences of their first wine tasting. The whole wine.co.za team was invited to Morgenster Wine Estate and it was not just a regular wine tasting, it was a special one! Enjoy!

After a short drive along the beautiful vineyards, we arrived at Morgenster Wine Estate. Immediately we were impressed by the beautiful surroundings. On the estate you can see a small lake and in the the distance you have a beautiful view of the Helderberg mountains. The view was not the main reason for our visit, it was time to taste some wine!

Once we were inside, Margi Hoffe gave us a warm welcome. They prepared a beautiful table for us. They served us the new Italian wine collection of owner Giulio Bertrand. The three wines are produced in South-Africa from Italian varieties planted at Morgenster, viz. Sangiovese and Nebbiolo. But that was not all, with the wines they offered us a wine tasting experience paired with specially selected chocolates. Before we started tasting, Margi gave us an introduction about the farm. She told us about the history of their wines, the owner and much more. Margi told us that Mr. Bertrand is a huge fan of Italian opera, and therefore he named his wines after Italian operas. Each wine has been paired with the most delicious chocolates in South-Africa, or shall I say the world?

During the tasting they offered us three different wines. First, we had a rosé named Caruso. Second, a red wine named Nabucco and third was another red wine, the Tosca. The second one was absolutely my favourite. It was the Nabucco in combination with a 70% dark chocolate. I could not get enough of it.

After our visit at the Morgenster Estate, we also visited Lourensford. At Lourensford, the wine tasting continued and they gave us a tour through their cellar. In the end, we bought a bottle of their delicious honey liqueur.

The day had almost ended.

Time flies when you're having fun, they say. Unfortunately, it was time to head back to the office. We had an educational and fun day and look forward to next week's activities.

Regards,

Brigitte Oosterhuis, Dutch intern at Wine.co.za
