Van Ryn’s Distillery in Stellenbosch have launched four new brandy pairing options offering a variety of epicurean experiences that elevate their award winning range of brandies’ complex aromas and flavor profiles into the sublime.
The Cape Smoke Tasting offers a flight of the Van Ryn’s 10 year old vintage, Van Ryn’s 12 year old Distiller’s Reserve and the Van Ryn’s 15 year old Fine Cask Reserve, all of which have been paired with a variety of freshly baked grissinis (thin crisp Italian breadsticks)
The cost is R55 per person for the tasting, or R75 per person which includes a guided tour of the distillery.
For those with a sweet tooth, the Brandy and Chocolate Tasting is beyond compare, offering three hand-made Belgian chocolates paired with a flight three of Van Ryn’s potstill brandies, comprising the 12 year old Distiller’s Reserve, the 15 year old Fine Cask Reserve, and Van Ryn’s 20 year old Collector’s Reserve. The cost is R90 per person for the tasting, or R115 per person which includes a guided distillery tour.
The slightly adventurous can sign up for the Decadent Delight Tasting which serves a coffee-infused chocolate brownie with the Van Ryn’s 12 year old Distiller’s Reserve, Cardamom flavoured shortbread with the Van Ryn’s 15 year old Fine Cask Reserve, and a spiced fruit brandy truffle with the Van Ryn’s 20 year old Collector’s Reserve. The cost is R90 per person for the tasting, R115 per person which includes a guided distillery tour.
Van Ryn’s Distillery also offers a Non-Alcoholic Tasting which pairs a glass of refreshing fruit juice with either the three Belgian chocolates or three Decadent Delights at a cost of R60 per person or R75 per person which includes the guided distillery tour.
Founded by Cape brandy pioneer Jan Van Ryn in 1845, the Van Ryn’s Distillery earned their first international award for exceptional quality as far back as 1884 and since then have established their reputation for producing some of the world’s best brandies.
The beautifully preserved, Provençal styled distillery is situated in the heart of the Vlottenberg valley on the banks of the Eerste River, a mere 40 minute drive from Cape Town. Guided tours of Van Ryn’s Distillery run from Monday to Saturday and lead guests on a journey through time as they witness the ancient art of cooperage (barrel making) and see the time-honoured process of brandy distillation in action. The tours last between 60 to 90 minutes and are generally followed by a tasting of the award winning brandies which have been carefully paired with gourmet delights.
