When you are making a fine wine, what happens in the vineyards, and indeed with the weather that precedes the harvest, make a huge difference in the final product.
For the Boschendal Sauvignon Blanc Grande Cuvée 2015, vineyard management involved careful spur pruning which left two to three well developed bunches per spur. Shortly before harvesting, leaves were trimmed away from the bunches inside the vine taking care not to expose the bunches to the sun. The growing period was initially warm and was followed by cooler weather which benefits a slow ripening and adds to the aroma and flavour in the bunch.

During the wine making process, absence of oxygen protected the delicate Sauvignon flavours. The wine was left on its lees for the first month with regular stirring to build roundness and fullness on the palate. Just before bottling 5% Semillon is added which again brings its own fullness to the flavours of the wine.

Packed in the distinctive Boschendal bottle, first used to launch a wine thirty years ago for Boschendal’s 300th birthday. In the glass it is a pale golden straw with youthful green flashes.

A generosity of herbaceous tropical fruit. The palate is smooth and creamy with an undertow of wet river stones. Crisp long aftertaste.
