Winemaker
Louis van der Riet stole the limelight this year for his natural wines. The De
Krans Free Run Chenin Blanc 2015 was named the Champion White Wine as well as
the Champion Chenin Blanc for 2015.
Not
stopping there, the De Krans Basket Press Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 was named
Champion Cabernet Sauvignon, while the De Krans Wild Ferment Chardonnay 2015
was crowned the Little Karoo’s Reserve Champion Chardonnay.
With
no less than seven class winners, De Krans was awarded the most medals at this
competition.
Reaffirming
its position as an award-winning producer De Krans also did extremely well at this
year’s SA Young Wine Show, winning three gold medals (two for port wines and
the third for the Free-Run Chenin Blanc 2015) as well as several silver medals.
Completing
the list of recent wins the De Krans Free-Run Chenin Blanc 2015 and Wild
Ferment Chardonnay 2014, were each awarded a gold medal at the 2015 Gold Wine
Awards, which were announced at the end of August.
According
to Van der Riet these results are proof that not only does De Krans produce
excellent port wines (SA Champion Port Trophies in 2012 and 2014), but also
superb natural wines from varieties such as Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and
Cabernet Sauvignon.
