KWV
This capped a successful week where they scored the highest among
producers at the Regional Paarl Young Wine Show with 8 trophies. This is the fifth
time since 2009 and the fourth year in a row that KWV has won this prestigious
accolade.
This
year, a total of 129 producers with 1900 entries competed in the two-tiered SA
Young Wine Show, which includes eight regional competitions with separate awards
ceremonies, followed by the national championship. The aim of the competition is to judge the
quality of wines within the year of production before they are finally blended
and bottled. In this way, the industry can give recognition to the production capabilities
of a wine cellar.
“Our wines performed very well,
reinforcing 2014 as an excellent year,” said
KWV chief winemaker Johann Fourie. “We performed very well across
varieties, and we’re
particularly pleased to have won the best Paarl Producer Trophy again.”
Louwritz Louw, KWV Winemaker, commented that he
was “delighted to see how
these wines develop once they become commercially available. It is gratifying
to see our Chenin blanc, which won a regional award and a gold at last year’s Young Wine Show, go on as KWV's The Mentors Chenin Blanc 2013 to
win the Harold Eedes Trophy for the 2014 Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show's best
Chenin Blanc.”
