Laingsburg Municipality published a new liquor trading hours bylaw on the 4th of April 2014.

It came into operation on said date.

The existing hours for on-consumption liquor sales in restaurants, pubs and clubs etc. had been retained i.e. 11h00 to 02h00 Monday to Saturday and 11h00 to 23h00 on Sunday.

Hotels and casinos are also still permitted to sell liquor 24hours a day.

The most important change is the fact that off-consumption licenced premises such as bottle stores and supermarkets are no longer permitted to sell liquor on Sundays or public holidays.

They may only sell liquor between 09h00 and 20h00 Monday to Friday and frtom 09h00 to 18h00 on Saturday.

According to Danie Cronje, the Director of Liquor Law Services at Cluver Markotter Incorporated, the change in the bylaw is contrary to recent changes in the bylaws of other municipalities which made provision for the holders of off-consumption liquor licences to apply for extended trading hours and Sunday trading.
