Fire crackling winter warmers at Kleine Zalze's Terroir Restaurant

With the upcoming winter months in the Cape, Terroir restaurant situated on the Kleine Zalze estate offers foodies a fantastic deal. With an inviting fireplace and warm, knowledgeable service, Terroir is the place to dine this winter.
The Winter Special is in no way a dumbed-down version of Terroir’s signature à la carte chalkboard menu that is available throughout the year. It’s simply a pared-down and therefore more affordable take on the award-winning chalkboard menu with the creation of every dish driven by the same thoroughness, quality and authenticity for which Terroir has become well known. Almost everything is made on the premises, from the bread to the bacon.

Chef Michael Broughton has been extremely busy this year not only creating seasonal menus for the restaurant but also making his debut as Television chef and author. The TV series Seasons at Terroir, depicting the inner workings of the Terroir kitchen, launched on the 25th of March on the National Geographic channel and the long-awaited Terroir cookbook, written by Michael, will be released this year as the restaurant celebrates its 10th anniversary.

With the winter special, diners will be spoilt for choice with various starters, mains and desserts included in the Winter Special Menu. Make your selection and enjoy two courses for just R240 or three courses for only R280. Both deals also include a glass of award-winning Kleine Zalze wine.

The Winter Special may be ordered by tables of eight or less guests and will be available from the 2nd of May until the 30th of September, from Monday to Saturday for lunch or dinner. Please note that Terroir will be closed from the 30th of June until the 17th of July.

Starters include confit pear with mushroom panna cotta, lavender ricotta, and a mille feuille of gorgonzola and pecan nuts; as well as stuffed vindaloo chicken wings with cardamom yoghurt and banana. Mains such as sous-vide duck with a coffee, chestnut and gingerbread sauce or fresh line fish with bouillabaisse mussels and peppered squid. Vegetarians are always catered for with dishes such as the sublime “truffled mac” with tomato courgette fondue and aged balsamic cream. And for those with a sweet tooth there are also decadent desserts on offer such as the Szechuan roasted pineapple, caramel truffle and pumpkin ice cream.

Alternatively eat at Terroir and stay the night at Kleine Zalze Lodge, take advantage of the very well priced Terroir Package, from the 2nd of May until the 31st August. This package starts from just R650 per person sharing per night and includes:
