Villiera Wines
Farmers welcome the seasons because without them we couldn't do what we do. This winter has been wet, replenishing water reserves and ensuring that the vines enjoy a decent rest. Now we look forward to summer and the anticipated increase in demand for bubbly.
In France, summer began wet and stormy. Flooding and hail damage was experienced in many regions but in the Roussillon we were spared. In July the conditions warmed up but due to cool conditions early on, the harvest is expected to be late. Pascal, our Domaine Grier brand manager will be going over to assist with the harvest. Jeff and Simon will be joining the team later to assist with decision making and control of the final quality.

Back in South Africa we are building up to the annual Cape Winemakers Guild Auction on the 5th of October. Villiera has a stunning Cap Classique on auction called Meteor. It is from the 2008 vintage and it is a blend of all 3 Champagne varieties, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It is complex and beautifully balanced, illustrating the art of blending.Meteor is related to our usual auction offering, Shooting Star which is a Blanc de Blanc style.

The CWG Auction is open to private buyers as well as trade. If you can’t physically attend but would like to make a purchase, online and telephone bidding is available. Contact the Cape Winemakers Guild Office(tel: +27.218520408, email: kate@capewinemakersguild.com) for further details. It is the best selection of unique wines in South Africa.
