Stellenbosch Municipality’s Liquor Trading Hours By-law come into operation on the 2nd of August 2013.
Most on-consumption licenced businesses such as restaurants, pubs and clubs may sell liquor from 11h00 until 02h00.

However, businesses located in residential areas may only sell between 11h00 and 24h00.

Hotels may sell liquor until 02h00.

Liquor sales hours for business with off-consumption liquor licences such as supermarkets, liquor stores and wineries will be from 09h00 to 20h00.

They may not sell liquor on Sunday, Good Friday or Christmas.  However wineries and wineshops may sell on these days.

The holders of on-consumption liquor licences may apply for extension of their hours e.g. clubs which wish to retain the right they currently have to to sell liquor until 04h00.

According to Danie Cronje, the Director of Liquor Law Services at Cluver Markotter Incorporated, the holders of liquor licences for supermarkets and liquor stores will be disappointed that they will not have the opportunity to apply for the right to sell liquor on Sunday especially since the proposed amendments to the by-law of the City of Cape Town is expected to make provision for such an application.
