Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon blends are a fairly new concept in
South Africa, but are already causing huge excitement. The awards aim to inform
and empower wine drinkers to place these new and exceptional white wines on
their list of favourites.
“Like making investment decisions, identifying the best
wines requires demystifying sophisticated and multifaceted processes, says
Albrecht Gantz of RisCura. “We pride ourselves on making sophisticated and
complicated processes simple and accessible for our clients, so this is why we
have chosen to sponsor the White Hot wine awards. This award will not only
recognise and applaud the wine producers who participate, but bring recognition
and understanding to the unique complexity of South Africa’s Bordeaux-style
white blends.”
Wines will be tasted blind by a panel consisting of
Christian Eedes as chairman, along with Roland Peens of Wine Cellar, a Cape
Town firm that brokers and cellars fine wine, and James Pietersen, beverage
manager for local restaurants Balducci’s and Belthazar.
Wine makers who would like to participate have until 7
August 2013 to do so.
Simply send two bottles to: 7 Clarendon Road, Mowbray,
Cape Town to enter, for free.
Conditions of participation are: 1) wines submitted must be
current release or soon to be released (no museum class entries) and 2) must be
specifically labelled as blends (no wines labelled as “Sauvignon Blanc” but
containing a fraction of Semillon will be accepted).
The winning wines will be announced at an awards lunch hosted by RisCura and catered by top chef Franck Dangereux in September 2013.
The findings will also be posted on Christian Eedes’ blog - Whatidranklastnight.co.za
