Lourens River Valley 2003 from Morgenster awarded Platinum and Gold in Japan

Lourens River Valley 2003 from Morgenster Estate outside Somerset West has shone in The Best Wine in Japan Competition held in Japan in June 2013 at the Hotel Chinzanso, Tokyo.
Headed by Dr Fujitoshi Yanagida of the Department of Local Produce and Food Sciences, Head of Research Centre of Wine Science, the competition has two categories, the first being judged by professional wine judges and the second by select wine lovers.

Lourens River Valley 2003 won a Gold Medal (16 – 18 points out of 20) in the professional category which was judged by 10 professional wine judges, including Mr Satoru Mori, the representative of the World Sommelier Championship of Japan 2012, and also Sommelier of La Tour d’Argent (www.latourargent.co.jp/).

In the connoisseur category judged by 60 select wine lovers who do not work in the wine industry, Lourens River Valley 2003 won a Platinum Medal (18 and above points out of 20).

Morgenster’s Bordeaux-styled red wines have shone in local and international competitions. Since the mid nineties, owner Giulio Bertrand has had the assistance of Pierre Lurton, president of Château Cheval Blanc and Château dYquem and also a director on the board of Morgenster, to produce elegant wines that have the capacity to age well.
