The grapes for this wine were harvested from a single block of 10-year-old Muscat de Frontignan bush vines which yielded only 6 tons/ha. By harvesting when the berries had already become raisiny, a wonderful combination of raisins, tea-leaf, honey, roses, luscious litchi and mango flavours were achieved in the wine. The wine goes equally well on a cold winter's evening next to the fire as it does on a late sunny afternoon served with crushed ice. Pair it with cured meats and cheeses or add it to your soups just before dishing up, simmer it along with lamb shanks or add a dash when preparing the sauce for your roast leg of lamb. The Du Toitskloof Red Muscadel is available from leading liquor outlets and the cellar, and retails for about R45 per bottle.
