At a prestigious ceremony held on 2 May 2013 in Franschhoek, Creation Wines received the coveted Best of Wine Tourism Award as South Africa’s winner in the category ‘Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences’.
This once again confirmed that this trendsetting estate lives up to its evocative name.

The Best of Wine Tourism Awards was established ten years ago by Great Wine Capitals (GWC), a network of nine major global cities in both the northern and southern hemispheres which share a key economic and cultural asset: their internationally renowned wine regions. The network’s mission is to encourage economic, academic and cultural development in each of the regions and one of its cornerstones is the development of wine tourism in and across the network.

André Morgenthal, spokesperson for the awards, said: “It is very encouraging to see that since the inception of the competition over a decade ago, there has been a steady advance in the quality and sophistication of wine tourism experiences entered for consideration.” The Hemel-en-Aarde area has been represented for the first time this year with Creation taking top position in the Innovative Wine Tourism category.

During the ceremony key note speaker, Robert Joseph, one of the most respected observers of the global wine industry, said that South Africa was among the most exciting wine countries in the world. Speaking to some of the country’s top wine producers who were present at the ceremony, Joseph, a regular visitor to South Africa, said he was “dazzled by the complete revolution in wine and wine tourism” that has been taking place in the country over the past 25 years.

Commenting on their award, Creation co-owner and marketing director Carolyn Martin said: “Since the opening of our tasting room in 2008, Creation has evolved into a wine destination with an exciting difference - and one of the main tourist attractions in the Hermanus area. We are delighted to have our commitment to constant innovation acknowledged.”
