Rietvallei Estate’s Special Select Chardonnay received it’s second consecutive Gold Medal at the recent 2013 Chardonnay du Monde in France.
The 2012 vintage was also included in the Top 10 selection for best scoring wines at this prestigious event... ranked 4th overall.

The 20th annual Chardonnay du Monde, a world-renowned competition, was held at Château des Ravatys, the wine estate of the Pasteur Institute at Saint-Lager in Burgundy. A panel of 300 international judges evaluated 872 wines from 42 countries. A total of only 58 wines internationally were awarded gold medals, which included only two from South Africa.

Kobus Burger, winemaker and MD of Rietvallei, states that this is a significant achievement for the Estate, considering that Chardonnay du Monde is such a prestigious international competition.

"We are ecstatic about this wonderful achievement,” says Kobus. "It serves as great recognition for the hard work of the Rietvallei team. Winning this award would not have been possible without the dedication and passion of our whole team. Chardonnay is of great importance to our Estate and forms an integral part of Rietvallei’s portfolio. It was the first white wine my father launched back in 1987. Today we have three different Chardonnay’s in our stable, of which the Special Select Chardonnay is our Premium Cuvee.”

Rietvallei’s Special Select Range is the Estate’s ultra premium range, and only a limited quantity is produced annually. These wines are all made from site specific vineyards, specifically chosen for their exceptional fruit quality and ability to produce wines of a superior world class standard. The Special Select Chardonnay is a full-bodied, complex wine with excellent fruit and wood integration.
