La Vierge Wines
The very challenging 2013 season is about to finish, a bit later than last year due to vigorous growth driven by constant rain.
With stringentvineyard practices we managed to obtain greatfruit, so watch this space for updates on theprogress of our wines.

While autumn is knocking on our door, weintroduce you to the new vintages of yourfavourite red wines, tell you about newrestaurant dishes (keeping in mind thatMother’s Day is around the corner), present toyou our new tasting room managerand show off some stunning weddingpictures.

We have just released the 2011 vintage of the La Vierge Noir (big sister of the 4 star JohnPlatter, Winemakers’ Choice Diamond Award).

La Vierge winemaker (Gerhard Smith) commentson the new release: "The 2011 La Vierge Noirfollows on from the highly regarded 2010, offeringthe same elegance and feminine characteristics, while showing slightly older vine-age. The primaryfruit aromas of sweet-and-sour red cherry andfloral flavours are well balanced by a subtlesavoury element. Soft spicy notes combine wellwith the balanced use of integrated oak, giving anextra layer to the wine. The palate is supple andwell balanced, with typical Pinot linear length anda slight salty finish.”

Then also off the labelling line, is the 2010Anthelia, which has less Mourvèdre (2009vintage was 25% and the 2010 has a mere 5%).“By lessening the Mourvèdre component, the focusfalls on the elegant violet floral notes, soft spices ofthe Shiraz and a subtler tannin structure. Thismakes the wine more accessible right now withthe primary fruit that is more upfront than the2009.” says Gerhard.
