Blaauwklippen Vineyards
As February approaches winemakers in South Africa start preparing for the new harvest, this year we will start picking about two weeks later than in 2012. The crop seems to be a bit smaller than the year before and even though we suffered wind damage the vineyards are looking very healthy.
I will keep you updated on how we progress. According to my calculations, Malbec will be the first grapes we welcome into the cellar this year.

Something new
We bottled some new releases, among others the Blaauwklippen Cultivar Selection Rosé, produced from Shiraz and Zinfandel grapes. The wine is delicately styled with aromas of apple, pear and cherries and sells for R40 per bottle. The new 2010 Vineyard Selection Cabriolet, is a seamless blend of 50% Malbec, 30% Merlot, 10% Shiraz, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine can be enjoyed now, but has excellent cellaring potential. It sells for R87 per bottle.

The month of love
Our harvesting season, it is also the month of love! Our Barouche Restaurant is offering a “lovely” Valentine’s Day Dinner on Thursday the 14th of February. The four course menu includes a welcome drink as well as the following mouth-watering offerings: An Amuse of spicy butternut and coriander broth, a starter of cured Norwegian salmon and golden crab a choice between two mains, crispy fried spiced beef tartare ravioli or Crispy roasted pork belly and the grand finale of Chocolate Marquise.

The dinner costs R350 per person and bookings are essential, please call +27.218808222 to book.
