Dombeya Wines
Haskell Vineyards and Dombeya Wines are proud to announce that leading Australian producer, Brokenwood Wines, will become a partner to The Dombeya Scholarship.
Commencing during vintage 2014, the Hunter Valley based winery will provide biennial employment and mentoring to the recipient of one of South Africa's most innovative equal opportunity initiatives.

Initiated in 2007, The Dombeya Scholarship was created to identify outstanding individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and to foster their careers in the wine industry. With assistance from noted Australian producers, Voyager Estate and Kaesler Wines, as well as the University of Adelaide, candidates furthered their theoretical and practical winemaking skills during a multi week program in Australia.

In 2012, the scholarship moved from focusing on graduate winemakers to candidates who were engaged in the industry at a practical level, but without tertiary qualifications. The current candidate, Salvester van Rooyen, is currently mid way through two years of part time study at Elsenburg Agricultural College whilst continuing in his role with the winemaking team at Haskell Vineyards and Dombeya Wines in Stellenbosch. After receiving his Diploma from Elsenburg Agricultural College, he will then travel to Australia to undertake six weeks of employment at Brokenwood Wines during the 2014 Hunter Valley vintage.

"Brokenwood has a long history of nurturing and promoting winemaking talent," said Iain Riggs, Brokenwood Wines CEO.

“Helping out with The Dombeya Scholarship is an easy fit for us and we're delighted to be involved with such a worthy initiative."

"There has been an incredible amount of support in Australia for The Dombeya Scholarship since it began," said Dombeya Wines partner, Grant Dodd. "To have Brokenwood on board for the next stage of its evolution ensures that it will continue to evolve in the right direction. We couldn't hope for a better partner and look forward to working together in order to meet our goal of making a difference.”
