The historic Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate, Franschhoek, part of Huka Retreats, has been named the winner in the Arts and Culture category at the 2013 Best of Wine Tourism Awards run by Global Wine Capitals (GWC).
The GWC, a network of the world’s leading wine-producing countries that shares international best practice to advance standards in wine tourism across the world, announced the results on November 8 in Florence, Italy, at a gala dinner attended by leading wine tourism practitioners from around the world.

GWC’s members, in addition to Cape Town-Cape Winelands, include Mainz-Rheinhessen (Germany), Bilbao-Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Florence (Italy), Mendoza (Argentina), Porto (Portugal), San Francisco-Napa (United States) and New Zealand’s Christchurch.

Karl Lambour, General Manager and Winemaker had this to say: “We are extremely proud that The Gallery, The Cathedral and The Sculpture Garden at Grande Provence are recognised for showcasing a wide variety of art media by leading and emerging South African artists. The intention has always been to provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their work. Art is a very large part of the Grande Provence experience which complements the fine cuisine, superb accommodation and award-winning wines.”

Each year, the GWC initiative offers hospitality leaders the opportunity to showcase the very best in wine tourism and wine tourism practices. The award covers seven categories; Restaurants, Accommodation, Architecture and Landscapes, Arts and Culture, Innovative Wine Tourism Experiences, Wine Tourism Service and Sustainable Wine Tourism Practices.

Grande Provence Estate is open 7 days a week - with The Restaurant (open for lunch and dinner) and proudly welcoming visitors to enjoy The Tasting Room, The Jonkershuis, The Gallery, The Sculpture Garden, The Shop and The Owner’s Cottage.
