Following in its recent success at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards, the Lanzerac Le Général 2009 was honoured at yet another prestigious event when it was awarded Gold at the 2012 Veritas Awards, which took place on 6 October in Cape Town.
This year 1 744 wines and brandies were entered into this internationally recognised competition, awarding 58 double gold, 147 gold, 499 silver and 677 bronze medals. A panel of six highly experienced international judges joined forces with no less than 100 researchers, academics, Cape Wine Masters, wine writers and consultants to determine wines and brandies worthy of the Veritas commendation.

Made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinotage and Malbec, with only 2 200 bottles produced annually, winemaker Wynand Lategan describes the Le Général 2009 as displaying layers of black and red berry aromas with hints of currant and cacao on the nose. The wine delivers a well-rounded amalgam of berries and chocolate on the palate that lingers on the aftertaste, with potential to mature over a four to five year period. Available directly from the cellar at R200 a bottle.
