Stomp in vintage 2013 at Delheim’s Start of Harvest Festival

Monday, 22 October, 2012
Delheim will roll out the barrels for vintage 2013 on Saturday 26 January at the fourth Start of Harvest Festival, hosted by the Sperling family. Headlining once again is the famous grape stomp, where teams will clash in pursuit of producing the most juice.
The fun will kick off at 12 noon with the newest addition to Delheim’s daily offerings, a guided vineyard tour. A cellar tour will follow at 1pm, giving a rare glimpse into a working wine cellar in the midst of harvest. The jazz band will strike up as the cellar tour commences, and then the precursor to the main event; a kiddies’ grape stomp at 2pm.

At 2.30pm the grape stomp-proper begins; a barrel-rolling, grape-grabbing, chaotic stomping sequence with onlookers shouting out ‘helpful’ hints. Prizes will be awarded for the most juice stomped, with spot prizes allocated according to quirky themes. ‘Guess the cultivar’ grape tastings will take place throughout the day, and prizes will be awarded for the nearest guess.

Tickets will be restricted to the first 100 bookings, at R60 per adult and R30 per child. Included in the fun is all activities, a glass of grape must and traditional mosbolletjies. Paninis will be available for purchase on the day, or pre-book one of Delheim’s delicious picnics, priced at R120 per adult and R60 per child. Email or telephone 021 888 4600 for picnic and ticket bookings; or visit to find out more.
