Winter in the winelands is a time for enjoying all the wonderful specials offered by the local restaurants. Here are a few of our favourites.
Clos Malverne

The Restaurant at Clos Malverne, nestled in the Devon Valley outside Stellenbosch, welcomes winter with a feast of comforting classics, conjured up in an exclusive Winter Warmer Menu which alternates weekly. In addition, the restaurant’s signature Food and Wine Pairing Menu also features a new sumptuous lineup of hearty dishes. The new Winter Warmer Menu, which turns up the heat from Tuesdays to Fridays until the end of August, offers enthusiasts a three course lunchtime food and wine indulgence of generous portions at a mere R158 per person. Durbanville Hills

As part of the Durbanville Wine Valley's annual Soup, Sip and Bread Festival to be held on the weekend of 2 and 3 June, The Eatery at Durbanville Hills Wines will offer a soup buffet at lunch time on the Saturday and the Sunday. The menu includes four different soups each paired with Durbanville Hills' wines and served with a selection of oven-fresh breads. For more information please click here.

Eagles' Nest

Eagles' Nest wine estate in the Constantia Valley has just launched an exciting and innovative offering of "Soup and Wine Pairings", just in time for winter! Visitors to the Tasting Room this winter can now take a seat alongsidethe  fireplace and enjoy a generous bowl of hot, steaming soup, perfectly paired with one of Eagles' Nest's fine wines. Enjoy a hot, steaming bowl of soup paired with a glass of their best-matched white wine for just R65, or a bowl paired with the tastiest red accompaniment from their range for just R75. Haute Cabrière


Because the Cape enjoys mild winters, Haute Cabrière will be taking advantage of the beautiful balmy afternoons with a newly introduced terrace menu, to encourage guests to linger after their tasting room experience. Guests can enjoy oysters, cheese or duck liver parfait plates, with home baked ciabatta and a selection of tapas. This menu is available only on the terrace (weather dependant) and served from 15h00 to 19h00 on Fridays and Saturdays, and weekdays (excluding Mondays) and Sundays until 17h00. During autumn and winter (May to August), Haute Cabrière Restaurant is open for lunch Tuesdays to Sundays, and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. For more information please click here.

Holden Manz

A new menu infused with exotic flavours of the orient and a passion for cutting edge cuisine with a strong Pacific rim twist is what new Executive Chef Cheyne Morrisby is serving up this winter at the Franschhoek Kitchen at Holden Manz Wine Estate. Paired perfectly with signature wines from Holden Manz, Cheyne’s winter dishes offer you a multitude of choices for a memorable feast with an international flavour. Kleine Zalze

The upcoming months in the Cape call for modern comfort food and satisfyingly earthy flavours. With an inviting fireplace and warm, knowledgeable service, Terroir situated on the Kleine Zalze estate offers foodies that rare thing in winter: a real deal. The Winter Special includes a choice of three starters, three mains, two desserts and a cheese board, with dishes changing according to seasonal availability of ingredients. Unlike the rising price of petrol, the price of the menu will delight anyone who appreciates quality and value for money. Two courses costs only R175, three courses costs a reasonable R198. This winter sees Cassia restaurant, located on the scenic Nitida wine farm in the Durbanville valley, boasting warming comfort food favourites on its brand new winter menu. Having joined Cassia in 2009, chef proprietor Warren Swaffield’s philosophy is simple and a recipe for success: honest, uncomplicated flavours, generous portions and quality ingredients. Simonsig

Join Simonsig's signature restaurant, Cuvée, on a culinary journey around the world with their Saturday winter food and music evenings inspired by the diverse cultures of different countries and paired with statuesque, full-bodied Simonsig red wines. Spice Route

The Goatshed restaurant at Fairview Wine Farm and the neighbouring Spice Route Restaurant, in Paarl, are adding some warmth to the chilly season, offering an array of Food and Wine evenings during June through to September.
