Vrede en Lust
Semi-Soet is an Afrikaans romantic comedy - the first of its kind in
decades. Sandra Vaughn wrote the screenplay, and the story was initially
conceptualised by Anel Alexander, Joshua Rous, James Alexander and
Sandra Vaughn. Directed by Joshua Rous (City Ses'la), the film was
produced by James and Anel Alexander's Scramble Productions.
Semi-Soet stars Anel Alexander (Discreet, 7de Laan, Binnelanders), Nico Panagio (Die Storie van Susanna van Biljon, Survivor), Diaan Lawrenson (7de Laan, Stander), Paul du Toit (Liefling, Binnelanders), Louw Venter (The Most Amazing Show), and Sandra Vaughn (Getroud Met Rugby).
The film was shot in Gauteng and on the Vrede en Lust wine estate in Franschhoek. The filmmakers were fortunate enough to enlist the support of the Buys family - owners of Vrede en Lust, who made the estate available as a location for the film.
Semi-Soet will be distributed by Indigenous Film Distribution and is scheduled for release in February 2012.
Synopsis
Workaholic Jaci van Jaarsveld will do just about anything to protect the boutique advertising agency where she works from being bought out and dismantled by a ruthless businessman known as "The Jackal". She pins all her hopes on a huge international contract to market a prestigious wine farm. But, saving the agency is going to be a little tougher than that. First, Jaci needs to convince the owner of the wine farm that she embodies his estate's ideals of family values and commitment.
Desperate to look the part, Jaci convinces a drop-dead gorgeous man (who she finds standing outside the modelling agency near her offices) to be her fiancé for the day. At the pitch meeting, her plan appears to be working. Jaci is sure she’s won over the client - until he insists that she and her bogus fiancé spend the weekend at the estate.
At the estate, things between Jaci and her beau get complicated ... Unbeknown to Jaci, the man she’s hired is ‘The Jackal’ himself! Her plan starts to unravel with hilarious consequences.
