DGB (Pty)Ltd have reached another important milestone in their quest to be innovative with packaging and to further reduce their impact on the environment with Culemborg Chenin Blanc 2011 and Cape Red 2010 successfully bottled in the lightest of all glass 750ml wine bottles made in South Africa yet.
“We are the first to bottle in Nampak Wiegand Glass’s new ultra light weight 750 ml glass bottle, weighing only 340g,” says General Manager of Operations Pieter Marais. “Not only is it the lightest weight 750ml glass wine bottle but it looks good too.”

Culemborg is one of DGB’s biggest export lines and for this reason, the range was chosen for the ultra light weight bottles.

“DGB are well regarded for packaging innovation and this is an important step in further minimizing our eco-footprint,” says Pieter. “The change to these bottles represents a 21% weight reduction on this brand and subsequent significant reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. Lightweighting continues to boost the eco-friendly gains that we have made in line with our program to become a carbon neutral organization. Losing weight is always rewarding, even when it comes to glass bottles!”
